Chili
Cook-off Sponsored by Rogers Market
Contest hours: Saturday, Sept. 18, 9:00AM to 2:00PM
This is an outdoor event. No cancellations for bad weather.
1. Entry deadline for Chili Cook-Off is Sept. 10. Entry fee is $25.
No late entries are permitted.
2. This competition will be conducted according to the
following rules:
- Chili may be prepared with any kind of meat or combination of
meats, cooked with red and/or green chili peppers, various spices
and other ingredients. Beans & pasta are allowed.
- There are no rules for the ingredients or preparation of salsa.
It may be store bought or prepared at the cook-off.
- No ingredient may be pre-cooked in any way prior to the
Cook-Off, with the excepetion of canned or bottled tomatoes, tomato
sauce, peppers, pepper auce, beverages, and broth. Meat may be
treated, pre-cut or ground, but must be in original package.
MEAT MAY NOT BE PRE-COOKED.
- Contestants must provide their own cooking apparatus, cooking
fuel and ingredients.
- All contestants are required to have fire extinguishers.
- Contestants may set up on Friday, but food preparation may
not begin before 10:00AM on Saturday.
- A contestants' meeting will be held at 9:00AM Saturday during
which final instructions will be given. Each contestant will be
assigned a number by the head scorekeeper and be given an official
32 oz container. Each contestant should verify that the number on
the bottom of the cup is the same as their assigned contestant
number. Each contestant is responsible for delivering their cup,
which must be filled to the rim, to the judging area by the official
time for judging.
- Each contestant must prepare a minimum of 4 quarts of chili in
one pot, to be submitted for judging.
- The cooking period will be a maximum of 4 hours. Cooking will
begin at 10:00AM and will end at 2:00PM.
- Judging will take place immediately. Contestants not ready for
judging will be disqualified.
- Judging will be done by public vote.
- Votes will be counted at 3:00PM. The vote count will be final.
- Cash prize & trophy will be awarded to First Place.
3. Cash prize will be $100 or 50% of entry fees, whichever is
greater.
4. Contestants will be permitted to sell chili in compliance with
State & local agencies.
5. Electricity is extremely limited. Access requires prior
arrangement.
6. The sponsors of this event will not be held liable for any event
or contract failures whatsoever caused by weather, natural causes, acts
of God or any other conditions beyond the control of the sponsors, etc.

Coyote
Melon Launching

Contest hours: Sunday, Sept. 19, 11:00AM & 2:00PMThis is an outdoor event. There will be no cancellations for bad
weather.
1.
Entry fee for Melon Launching is $10 if submitted before Sept. 15. Entry
fee after Sept. 15 will be $15. Entry fees for junior division are
waived. 2. Entry forms must be submitted by 10:00 AM Sunday, Sept.
19. 3. Competition will be held on Sunday, Sept. 19. Non-motorized
division will begin at 11:00AM. Motorized Division will begin at 2:30 PM, with an optional warm up
period at 2:00 PM. 4. This competition will be conducted according to the following
rules: a. There will be 2 divisions (motorized& non-motorized) and 2
age brackets (adult and 12/under ).
b. Contestants may use any method desired to propel the Coyote Melon
toward the target, EXCEPT
EXPLOSIVES!
c. Each contestant will launch a maximum of 3 melons. Each entry must be
able to launce at least one melon.
d. Scoring will be best out of three attempts. Non-motorized
launches will be judged solely on distance.
Motorized launches will
be scored on a combination of creativity in design and accuracy.
e. One entry per person
f. No contraption may be used by more than one entrant.
g. All coyote melons used will be green.
h. NO EXPLOSIVES!!
5. Prizes will be awarded as follows:
* $50 People's Choice Award
* $25 cash prizes for adult bracket winners
* Trophy for winning entry in each division.

Any contestant hitting a target will win a t-shirt.
6. Decisions of the judges
are final. 7. The sponsors of this event will not be liable for any event or

"Finders
Keepers" Treasure Hunt

Mining Supply Contest will be
held Sunday, Sept. 19, at 10:00 AM.
This is an outdoor event. No refunds for bad weather.
1) Entry fee for
Treasure Hunt is $25 if submitted before Sept. 15. After Sept. 15
entry fee will be $30.
2) Entry forms must be
submitted by 10:00AM on Sunday, Sept. 19, 2010.
3) There will be no
cancellations due to weather.
4) This competition will
be conducted according to the following rules:
- Metal Detectors only
- Back up detectors are
permitted, but the contestant must physically leave the field to
change detectors.
- All contestants must wear
headphones.
- Anyone using a magnet will be
disqualified.
- Shovels and large digging
tools are prohibited. However, small hand held digging tools and
scratchers will be permitted.
- No sand scoops or sifters will
be permitted.
- Actual prizes will be buried
in the hunt area.
- Anyone trying to
"scout" the area in advance will be banned from the
competition.
- All holes must be filled in.
- Contestants found hunting
after the allotted time will be disqualified.
- The decisions of the Contest
judges are final.
5) "Buried
Treasure" will be coins, jewelry, and collectible artifacts.
Prize list will be updated as prizes are acquired.
6) Any nuggets found
which were not planted by the Festival will become the property of
the finder, providing he has not been disqualified.
7) Trophy will be
awarded to contestant accumulating the
heaviest pile of treasure.

The
"Great Coyote Melon" Art Contest

Entries are due by 11:AM, Saturday, Sept. 18This is an outdoor event.
1. Entry fee for the Great Coyote Melon Contest is $1 per entry.
There is no fee for Junior division entries.
2. Only one entry per class. (See classes below).
3. All entries must consist solely of coyote melons, buffalo gourds,
etc. (Cucurbita digitata, Cucurbita palmata, or Cucurbita
foetidissima. )
4. Divisions are as follows: Beginner, Advanced & Junior (under
14 years of age). Any contestant who has not previously won a prize
in any category will be considered a beginner.
5. Entries must be submitted by 11:00 AM on Saturday, Sept. 18.
Judging will take place immediately following. Ribbons will be
awarded to first place winners in each category. In addition, the
judging panel will select one entry to receive the Judges Trophy, as
well as awards for Most Patriotic, Most Original, and Most Unusual.
There will also be a People's Choice Award. Criteria for these
awards will be at the sole discretion of the judges. In the event
there are insufficient entries in a given division, the judges
reserve the right to award prizes at their discretion.
6. Entries may be picked up after 3:00PM, Sunday, Sept. 20. I.D.
will be required!
7. Judges may not enter the competition.
8. While every effort will be made to safeguard entries, the
sponsors of this event can not be responsible for any damage to
entries and will not be liable for any damages or contract failures
whatsoever caused by weather, natural causes, acts of God, or any
other conditions beyond the control of the sponsors, etc.

Horseshoe
Pitching Tournament Rules
Contest Hours: Saturday, Sept. 18, 9:00AM to ?
This is an outdoor event.
1) Entry fee for
Horseshoe Pitching Tournament is $10/person if submitted before
Sept. 15. After Sept. 15 entry fee will be $15.
2) Entry forms must be
submitted by 9:00AM, Saturday, Sept. 18, 2010.
3) There will be no
cancellations for weather.
4) Handicapping will
begin at 9:00AM.
5) Competition will
begin immediately following and will continue until all competitors
have been eliminated.
6) Contestants may use
their own horseshoes, provided they are deemed legal by the judges.
7) This competition will
be conducted according to the rules suggested by the National
Horseshoe Pitchers Association for Round Robin Tournament Play.
8) The decisions of the
judges are final.
9) A cash prize will be
awarded to the winners. First Place will be awarded a trophy &
40% of the entry fees collected for the Tournament, with a minimum
of $100. Second Place will be awarded 20% and Third Place will be
awarded 10%.
Awards will be made in
the Amphitheatre at the announced time.

Shooting" Derby Rules

1) Entry fee for Nugget
Shooting Derby is $35 if submitted by Sept. 15. Entry fee after Sept. 15
is $40.
2) Entry forms must be
submitted by 9:00 AM Saturday, Sept. 18, 2009.
3) There will be no
cancellations due to weather.
4) This competition will
be conducted according to the following rules:
- Metal Detectors only
- Back up detectors are
permitted, but the contestant must physically leave the field to
change detectors.
- All contestants must wear

disqualified.

5) To prevent
losing valuable prizes, metal tokens will be planted as targets.
Specially marked tokens may be redeemed for the prize indicated on
the token. In addition, each token will represent points, based on
size.
6) 1st, 2nd & 3rd
place prizes will be awarded to the shooters who accumulate
the most points, respectively. Please see prize list for details.

6) Tokens may be
redeemed immediately following the close of the contest. Trophy and
prizes will be awarded in the Amphitheatre at the end of the day.
7) Prizes will be gold
nuggets and silver coins.
8) Any nuggets found
which were not planted by the Festival will become the property of

"wild" nuggets will NOT count toward trophy points.
